Year Abandoned: Early 1950's

​

Location: Located 3.5 miles south of Magdalena on NM 114

​

 About: Kelly was central New Mexico's most prosperous mining town from the 1880's until the early 2oth century. Silver had been mined at Kelly since the 1860's, but in 1903 it became a major source of zinc carbonate, a vital ingredient in the manufacture of paint. Kelly is a ghost town, but former residents still host a festival every year.

The Traylor shaft and ore bin

This headframe was erected in 1906 by Gustav Billing's and still proudly stands today as the sentinel of New Mexico's famous mining heritage. The headframe was purchased from the Traylor Engineering Company of New York
